Her community was severely impacted by water scarcity until Oxfam partner organisation NGO Forum installed a Mini Piped Water Distribution Network, enabling community members to access safe, clean water whenever they need. Our approach
Oxfam Australia works as part of a global confederation led by Oxfam International, with 21 members and affiliates. This allows us to combine resources, respond quickly to emergencies and leverage strengths and expertise to achieve our shared vision of a world without poverty.
We strive tirelessly every day to deliver life-saving humanitarian relief, run long-term anti-poverty projects and create campaigns to bring about a future where everyone has an equal opportunity to learn, earn a decent living and live life to their fullest potential.
We work alongside communities, local partner organisations and a global network of supporters to tackle the root causes of poverty and create a more equal world.
Here’s what that looks like.

How we work

When a crisis hits, we respond rapidly with vital humanitarian aid to save lives.
By working with a global network of local partner organisations, we’re able to respond quickly with exactly what’s needed. Working directly with communities means we can tailor our response to needs as they emerge, protecting people most at risk.
Once the immediate threat is over, we stay on to support communities, with tools and resources to help rebuild their lives and protect against future disasters.

Areas of work
Oxfam works across four key areas: gender justice, First Peoples justice, climate change and economic inequality across the world.
Our strategic direction
Oxfam Australia is ready for the next phase: our 2026–2030 Strategic Framework. To end poverty, Oxfam seeks to disrupt inequality by partnering with communities to create a just, safe and thriving world. It aims to provide the strategic direction for our organisation over the next five years and provides the parameters for what we will do.
Over the course of this strategic plan, Oxfam Australia will tackle inequality globally and locally. To do this successfully, we will focus our efforts on three areas: economic equality, gender equality and climate change.
To make lasting change and stop poverty at its roots, we will work to influence policies, transform narratives, and ensure that humanitarian and development responses are relevant, rights-based and truly transformative.
This strategy reflects our belief in what is possible when solidarity, courage and community power come together and it charts a path towards a more just and equal world for everyone.
